The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. was originally formed to operate the franchised bus services in Kowloon. It later developed to operate services throughout the New Territories and to Hong Kong island. KMB is the world's largest operator of double deckers, and was the first operator to run double deckers in Hong Kong.

Today the fleet is made up of both 2 and 3 axle vehicles of Leyland, Volvo, Dennis, M.A.N. and Neoplan manufacture; there is also a substantial fleet of MCW Metrobuses. Most of the bodies are shipped CKD from the UK and assembled at KMB's own workshops, which is seen on this video.

As well as the new air-conditioned low floor vehicles, there are still large numbers of non air-con buses still in service.

This video, shot in November 2000 records the KMB operations in many areas of the New Territories - such as Mei Foo, Lai Chi Kok, Tuen Mun, Nathan Road, Jordan Rd and Salisbury Road in Kowloon. Also in the busy Central area of Hong Kong island, where we witness KMB operating alongside Citybus and New World First Bus.

The video shows buses of the Kowloon and Canton Railway (KCR) in service - some of these vehicles operate with KMB fleet names on some shared services. As filming took place a new fleet of Dennis Trident / ALX500 vehicles were just entering service.

KMB is a fascinating fleet to the lover of British bus design, being maintained to the highest standard. From the older 2 axle Metrobuses and Olympians to the new low floor M.A.N.'s, Neoplan Centroliners, Volvo Super Olympians and Dennis Tridents, there will be something there to make you want to go and see KMB for yourself!

The Kowloon Motor Bus company is the largest bus operator in Hong Kong. Operating a huge fleet mainly comprising of double deckers. Older vehicles are represented by non air-conditioned 3 axle Leyland Olympians, MCW Metrobuses and Dennis Dragons. The very latest is the Transbus Enviro 500, the Wrightbus bodied Volvo Super Olympian and the unique German built Neoman. The middle order are air-conditioned Leyland and Volvo Olympians, with Alexander bodies and Dennis Dragons with Duple Metsec bodies, not forgetting the first generation of ‘gold’ low floor double deckers of Dennis Tridents and Volvo Super Olympians.

This video opens on the busy Nathan Road in Kowloon. We make our way to Jordan Road and its bus station. Salisbury Road and Tsim Sha Tsui are visited to sample the delights of KMB in action. More action is found by Hung Hom Station and on Lai Chi Kok Rd.

We witness the evening rush at Kwun Tong, a busy bus station with all types of vehicles operating. In contrast we also film the morning rush at Kwun Tong. Other venues are Tsing Yi, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun where we see a number of New World First Bus Olympians transferred to operate KCR feeder services to the railway.

The video also features a number of ‘rides’ from the latest Enviro 500 to non air-con Dennis Dragons plus other types.

The casual visitor to Hong Kong would be pleasantly surprised to see what goes on in the bus world away from the standard ‘tourist’ areas. The busy towns in the New Territories are certainly a hive of activity to the student of road public transport. KMB is a very smart and efficient operator - a pleasure to observe - so sit back and enjoy the action!

1st September 1998 was the first day of operation of New World First Bus of Hong Kong. It took over the remaining routes of the former China Motor Bus Co.

This video, shot in March 1999, shows the operations of the new Dennis Tridents and Dennis Darts recently put into service by N.W.F.B., and of course the vehicles they took over from C.M.B. on 31st August, 1998.

Filmed in many places on Hong Kong island – Central, Wanchai, Shau Kei Wan Road, Siu Sai Wan, Tin Hau, etc. We also travel to Kowloon to see New World First Bus vehicles operating.

Experience air-conditioned luxury rides on brand new Alexander ALX500 Dennis Tridents and Plaxton bodied Dennis Darts. You can also ride on LV117 a non air-conditioned Alexander bodied Leyland Victory from Stanley to North Point – quite a stark contrast!

At the time of filming, New World First Bus of Hong Kong was almost three years old. This video sets out to update you since the last one we filmed in March 1999. Gone are the Leyland Victorys, Fleetlines and the Super Metrobus, almost all the non air-con vehicles. Gone also is the blue and cream livery of it’s predecessor, China Motor Bus. We do however, have a chance to say goodbye with a visit to the ‘grave yard’ at Siu Sai Wan. We get a rare chance to go inside the massive multi-storey depot and main works of NWFB at Chai Wan, to see Volvo Super Olympians in build, Dennis Darts being refurbished, Olympians being resprayed and much, much more. The new Neoplan Centroliners make their appearance, as well as freshly repainted Dennis Condors, and all the hustle and bustle you would expect from a busy Hong Kong operational depot. Filmed in November 2000 and May 2001 many changes can be observed.

We take rides on the new Dennis Trident 10.3m. Low height Duple Metsec’s on picturesque routes 9, 14 and to the Peak on the 15. You can also sample a ride on 6008 one of only two Centroliners in the ‘Wave’ livery. We also feature many action shots of NWFB vehicles operating in various locations on Hong Kong island.

To make this a truly ‘World Class’ video programme, we visit First Pennine to see former LM class 3-axle Olympians at work in the U.K., and then to Canberra in Australia to see open-top 3 axle (ML) Super Metrobuses in service on sightseeing duties.

New World First Bus is a fine example of a modern bus company – although a thoroughly modern fleet, there is still a good deal of variety for the enthusiast of the ‘British’ bus.

SINGAPORE BUS SERVICES has a fleet of almost 3,000 vehicles. The fleet consists of Leylands, Volvos, Scanias, Mercedes, with bodies from Alexander and Duple Metsec. This video shot in October 1999, shows its vehicles in service at many locations on the island.

You will see 3-axle Leyland and Volvo Olympians with Alexander ‘R’ air conditioned bodies (‘Superbus’), some in quite amazing overall advertisements. Non air-con, 2-axle Alexander Olympians, some with earlier style bodies, and some with ‘Superbus’ fronts. The latter are due to return to the U.K. to operate with the FirstBus group - BS7204J, the first to arrive here is seen operating with First Pennine on this video!

There is footage of Leyland Atlanteans, also with Alexander bodies, which were built in 1984-6. Similar bodied Mercedes Benz 0305’s can also be seen. Single Deckers are represented by Mercedes, Volvo, Scania and Dennis. Their bodies by Duple Metsec and Alexander.

We also take a brief look back at 1993, and see operating one of the batch of 100 Leyland Atlanteans that were sold to Citybus of Hong Kong.

Following on from the success of or first SINGAPORE BUS SERVICES video produced in 1999, we have made a return visit to see how the scene has changed.

We visit the busy interchanges at Boon Lay, Clementi, Jurong East, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Bedok and Tampines. At Ang Mo Kio we are treated to the delights of a tropical storm, together with an appearance of the unique Leyland Lynx with Alexander bodywork. At Tampines we see the two Volvo articulated single deckers in service. There are still many 2 axle non air conditioned Leyland and Volvo Olympians in service, the former with Alexander ‘R’ bodies, the later have Alexander bodies with ‘Royale’ front ends.

In the UK we visit Manchester to see former SBS7204J in service as First Manchester 3016, and there are views of former SBS7251Y, now AV39 in the Metroline fleet in London.

Filmed in April 2001, this video shows the Singapore bus fleet in a ‘look’ it has had for many years, this is soon to change - in November 2001 the company launched a new name - SBS TRANSIT, and a new livery of orange, white and purple……just watch this space!

This is the third in our series featuring the buses of Singapore Bus Services. As we said at the end of ‘Update 2001’, November 2001 saw the introduction of a new livery and the name ‘SBS TRANSIT’. So our cameras went back in May 2002 to capture the changes.

We start at the busy Bugis junction where most types of vehicles can be observed. Moving on we spend some time in the busy Boon Lay Interchange. There are large numbers of older style Olympians with Alexander ‘R’ type bodies, and here quite a few of the single deckers are in the new livery.

Clementi is our next stop with many Volvo single deckers and the Alexander Royale bodied non air-con double deckers. At Jurong East we get the first glimpse of the brand new Volgren bodied Volvo single decker that runs on natural gas - SBS2988M proudly shows off its virtues. As the sun goes down on another very hot day we see all types of vehicles rushing around this busy interchange.

Ang Mi Kio is our next call - there is a temporary bus station here as the previous one featured in the ‘storm’ on our last volume has been demolished! Here we see all types sporting the new look - including the non air-con Royale bodied Volvo Olympians. We then visit the depot with a series of still photos as filming is not allowed. Look out for the unique Alexander Leyland Lynx - now with a new front, SBS3572Y is completely disguised! We then film by Hungang depot with a good offering of vehicles passing our cameras.

Our final scenes of Singapore are on Serangoon Road. Here we film the Duple Metsec Dennis Tridents, which are very similar to their cousins in Hong Kong.

As a postscript we film First Manchester 3016 (K174 EUX) in service on route 17 from Rochdale to Manchester Arndale Centre. This vehicle has appeared on each one of our Singapore videos each time in a different livery. This time in First corporate livery. The scene and weather provide quite a contrast from her original operating territory!

This video takes a look back at the well loved China Motor Bus company of Hong Kong.

We use edited footage from some of our previous videos that featured CMB in everyday service in Hong Kong, together with unseen footage taken in 1993. We show former short Fleetline SF31 operating at the Scottish Bus Museum at Lathalmond, Fife, Scotland - a long way from its regular route 15 to the Peak! We feature the ML (Super Metrobus) class operating in Hong Kong - and then follow some examples to their new homes in Australia and London.

All 10 of the LM class, 11 metre Leyland Olympians, were transferred from CMB to New World First Bus in Hong Kong. Soon after they all left for further use in England with First Group. They found themselves operating with First Pennine, then with First Manchester after transferring to their Queens Road garage. We follow their progress from Hong Kong to the UK, and see them operating on the busy Manchester to Rochdale service. We then have the pleasure of taking 3003 (K483EUX) - formally LM7 (FW3152) on a trip to Middleton and then into and around Central Manchester, amongst the trams. She also meets up with a former Stagecoach Kenya 3-axle Duple Metsec bodied Dennis Dragon and an ex.Salford Corporation Leyland Titan PD2!

We finish the programme with a selection of stills of CMB vehicles from the late 1980’s.
